Cannon’s family has a long history of military service, starting in World War II.
Upon hearing the news of the arrest a few houses away is scary.

Emerson was looking for a loving home. "I was drawn to him right away because we have similarities. I felt like because I know what it's like to be Deaf, I could understand him,"
Emerson was a part of a litter and all of his siblings had already been adopted.
“He is left wondering why no one wants to give him a forever home,” NFR posted alongside his picture prior to his adoption. “He wants everyone to know that even though he may be deaf, he is still an amazing little pup with SOO much love to give!” Abbott said he initially wasn’t sure if he could handle the responsibility of another dog as he already had a 7-year-old yellow Lab, but he couldn’t get Emerson out of his mind.
“I decided I should at least go meet him and see,” Abbott said. “I walked in and he came right to me and sat on my foot. It was like he already knew me…. That’s the moment that I knew.” Their bond thus far has been “awesome,” Abbott explained. Wherever he is, Emerson is nearby.
Now, Abbott is actively training Emerson. The pup is already learning commands in sign language and has been fast at picking it up.
“I didn’t know what it would be like to have a Deaf dog. I’ve never been around a Deaf dog before,” Abbott said. “I think we have been learning together as we go.”

Internet sensation Grumpy Cat, Tardar Sauce passes away at 7 years old.
MORRISTOWN, Arizona -- Grumpy Cat, whose sourpuss expression entertained millions on the internet and spawned hundreds of memes, national television commercials and even a movie, died at age seven.
To activate this feature, press the "CC" button.
Her owners posted on social media that she experienced complications from a urinary tract infection. "She passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, at home in the arms of her mommy, Tabatha," they wrote.
"Grumpy Cat has helped millions of people smile all around the world - even when times were tough," her owners said.
The cat's real name was Tardar Sauce and the owners were never sure what her breed was. Her website said her grumpy look was likely because she had a form of feline dwarfism. They said despite her face, she is cuddly and loved to be held and rubbed.
She rose to fame after her photos were posted on Reddit in 2012. Her owners said it was suggested the photo was a fake, so they posted a few videos to prove otherwise.
Since then, Grumpy Cat made appearances on "Good Morning America," ''CBS Evening News," even "American Idol" and "The Bachelorette." She's done television commercials for Honey Nut Cheerios and took photos with hundreds of fans at South by Southwest.
In 2014, Lifetime produced a movie called "Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever." She was voiced by "Parks and Recreation" star Aubrey Plaza.
Owner Tabatha Bundesen founded Grumpy Cat Ltd. and created a website that included an online shop featuring 884 items, including T-shirts and mugs with the cat's picture.
The feline's net worth was never disclosed but in 2013, her owners say it was six figures. Last year, online speculation estimated her to be worth in the millions.
Grumpy Cat had more than 8 million followers on Facebook, 2.5 million on Instagram and more than 1.5 million on Twitter.
I'm feeling raw and broken-open, of late. It's okay. It's part of being human - being me. I've grown, and have developed healthy ways of softening and easing the panic or despair that rises from my gut and tries to squeeze my chest, lungs, heart. I like this being older. This feeling of still being a feral girl (which is how I feel every day if I don't look too long in the mirror), but having the benefit of experience and whatever small amounts of confidence I've mustered up over the years.
My brain isn't always a friend. It brings up old stories sometimes. It says "they don't like you," or "you'll never fit in," or "your best isn't good enough." It says "that thing you did fifteen years ago is shameful and you should still feel awful about it. Remember. Remember all those mistakes. All those times you should have done better. You should have been better."
Several years ago I began treating that voice like a frightened child. A shivering animal. Talking kindly to it. "Yes, yes, love. I know. You're safe. Shhh." When it won't quiet down, I go for a walk, or go out to the garden, or drive along the lake, or bake something that reminds me of my grandmother.
I'm in love with the scent of yeast. The feeling of dough stretching out and softening between my palms as I knead, makes me soon. Whirling around in the kitchen in the late afternoon while sunlight and sweet breezes dance through the window, is one of my favourite ways to unwind. I speak blessings to the dough, sing or chant to it, and as I go through the ritual of pressing and folding I find that my tension, fear, or anxiety slips away.
I don't purposely set out to eat wheat anymore (when I do bake it’s more often with gluten-free blends or a wheat & grain free ‘flour’) though it finds its way into my world from time to time. The sexy coupling of yeast and wheat is singular - nothing else really smells or feels like it. Sometimes it’s just the only thing I want.
This ridiculously easy thin crust pizza dough is what I've been playing with lately. ‘Pizza for a Kinder Mind’ is a movement I could happily start. Do you have your own tricks to lower the volume of a shit-talking brain? What things happily derail a train of not-so-helpful thoughts, for you?
Quick and Easy Thin Pizza Crust 1 teaspoon of traditional yeast
pinch of sugar
3/4 cup of warm water
1 and 3/4 cups of flour
a pinch of salt
- add the yeast and sugar to the warm water and wait 5 minutes or so for bubbles
- place flour and salt in a bowl, add yeast-water mixture and toss with a fork
- turn out onto floured surface and knead for 5-10 minutes, adding more flour if too sticky
- press dough into a non-stick or greased pan, top with your fave ingredients, bake at 450 for 10-13 minutes
Deaf entrepreneurs 'Lost River Vacations' offers the chance to stay at brand new tiny house resort on 22 acres of property in West Virginia.
WASHINGTON DC -- An opportunity to stay at a brand new, purpose-built, eco-friendly tiny house near the tranquil Lost River State Park is just one reward being offered by on Kickstarter. Backers that support the campaign can get hold of Lost River hats, shirts, mugs, limited edition photographs and prints, a five-night stay at Lost River Vacations, customized benches, the right to name a trail, and more.
Lost River Vacations and their campaign have already been presented in the Washington Post. The Kickstarter campaign will feature artwork from Deaf artists, designers and a Deaf-owned printing company. Funds that are raised in the campaign will go towards Lost River Vacations' campground, a Deaf-owned, built and operated campground for tired, nerve-shaken people seeking a secluded getaway deep in the hills of West Virginia.
Lost River Vacations owners Jane Jonas, Shawn Harrington, and Andrew St. Cyr want to add amenities to the resort to make it even more special for those that choose to stay there for a one-of-a-kind experience. Plans are in place to add a disc golf course, hot tub, and espresso trailer, as well as other accessories like a fire pit, outdoor lighting and furniture, deck and picnic table.

The Lost River Vacations retreat in West Virginia is set on 23 acres of land just two miles from the Lost River State Park, making it perfect for those in need of a quiet escape surrounded by nature. More than a dozen Deaf-owned businesses have already contributed to the project, making it a wonderful example of the Deaf ecosystem working together for a common aim.
Already installed at the resort are a road and parking lot, electrical connections, a drilled well, septic, and a tiny house, which is almost ready for rentals. The customized house was built entirely by Shawn Harrington, co-owner of NSH Properties as well as co-owner of Lost River Vacations, and a team of talented, Deaf craftsmen. They plan to build more dwellings when funds are available, including different sized accommodations, from tiny houses to log cabins to treehouses. Approval is already in place for three more tiny houses.
When the resort is ready, Lost River Vacations aims to provide a cooperative membership and feature special closed weekends for the members, as well as provide general rentals to the public.
They would eventually like to fund projects such as non-profit camps for Deaf children. In the longer term, they envision purchasing a second plot of land to create retreats and facilities for Deaf non-profit organizations to contribute to the project, get involved, or find out more about the Kickstarter campaign, visit the link here: https://kickstarter.com/projects/lostriver/lost-river-vacations.
